Lighting upgrades for roller skaters at St Clair

Almost 900 people each month skate at St Clair Recreation Centre, and now there’s lighting to set the vibe.

YMCA South Australia has invested more than $17,000 in the new project, in cohesion with our ongoing partnership with the City of Charles Sturt. The basic stadium lights have made way for colour-changing LEDs, lasers and a custom Y logo light at the centre of the court, all run from a dedicated lighting control console. New neon skate signs mark the stadium entry and the skate hire and service counter.

Sessions now feel closer to a night out at a roller rink than a lap at a sports hall. The light is also even across the whole floor, improving safety for skaters and instructors.

The work follows steady growth in the program that now includes a skate school every term. “Roller skating is a core part of St Clair Recreation Centre,” says Centre Manager Tristan Owen. “People who skate here deserve a room that matches that.”

Sessions are Friday nights, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, with times available on the St Clair Recreation Centre website. Come down to Court 6, lace up and feel what it’s like to skate under the new lights.
