Glengowrie YMCA wins capital works grant

Glengowrie YMCA Gymnastics Centre will undergo a renovation that will see the development of a common area including reception, customer service desk and parent area, thanks to a South Australia Government grant.

On Friday, 4 February, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Recreation, Sport and Racing, Corey Wingard and local MP and Minister for Trade and Investment, Stephen Patterson attended the Centre to announce a grant of $37,200 towards the facility upgrade, aimed at providing positive benefits for active recreation and sport within the community.

Construction is planned to start within the next six months and YMCA Regional Development Manager, Haydn Bellamy, said it would provide an opportunity to modernise and grow participation at the Centre.

“The YMCA has operated a Gymnastics program out of the City of Marion-owned Glengowrie Centre for over 60 years and its popularity has endured,” he said.

“The support funding is much needed to enable the YMCA to modernise the reception areas to ensure we provide a COVID-safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for parents, siblings and staff who often frequent the centre. The renovation will enable future participation growth at the much loved Centre enabling us to further deliver fundamental life-long skills across our community.”

Mr Bellamy thanked the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing for partnering with the YMCA through its suite of Infrastructure Grant Programs to undertake this important development at the Glengowrie Gymnastics Centre.
