From Clare to Port Lincoln, we’re pouring in funds for May’s Biggest Morning Tea!

YMCA SA centres across the state took part in Australia's Biggest Morning Tea this May, raising funds collectively for the Cancer Council and bringing local communities together around a shared cause.

Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is one of the Cancer Council's most significant annual fundraisers. Since 1994, it has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for cancer research and support services across the country.

This year, rural sites including Port Lincoln Leisure Centre, Whyalla Recreation Centre, and The Valleys Lifestyle Centre each hosted their own morning tea, drawing on local businesses, community members, and YMCA staff to make the events an over-flowing success. Port Lincoln raised $1,199.20 with the support of more than a dozen local businesses. Whyalla raised $600, backed by community bakers and local retailers including Coles and Woolworths. The Valleys raised $1,106.90, with a personal story shared by Physio Clare adding weight to the day.

Each event looked different, but the intent was the same: give the local community a reason to come together, and direct that energy toward a cause that touches almost every family in Australia.

For YMCA SA, this kind of activity demonstrates what the organisation exists to do, support local communities. Across more than 65 locations, from regional cities to metropolitan suburbs, YMCA SA runs recreation centres, aquatic facilities, early learning services, and community programs, and activities like The Biggest Morning Tea reflects the understanding that community health is not just physical, and that a recreation centre can be more than a place to swim or train, but a place to come together over a cuppa.
