YMCA SA celebrates National Youth Parliament 2026

YMCA SA is proud to support National Youth Parliament 2026, a national civic leadership initiative that will bring together 150 secondary school students from across Australia in Canberra from Sunday 16 August to Thursday 20 August 2026.

Led by the Department of the House of Representatives and delivered in partnership with Y Australia, National Youth Parliament gives young people a practical opportunity to experience Australia’s democracy in action.

Youth Members will take part in hands-on learning experiences, simulated parliamentary debates, workshops with parliamentary leaders and real-world policy challenges at Parliament House and the Museum of Australian Democracy (Old Parliament House).

The program is fully funded and has selected one Youth Member from each federal electorate. More than 2,200 applications were received from young people across Australia, reflecting strong interest in democracy, civics and social issues among the next generation.

National Youth Parliament reflects The Y’s commitment to empowering young people with the knowledge, confidence and skills to actively participate in their communities and help shape a better future.
