YMCA committed to Enable All

YMCA South Australia has received grant funding from AusActive which will be used to facilitate a free 12-week training program called Enable All for people living with a disability, at St Clair Recreation Centre and The Valleys Lifestyle Centre.

The YMCA has developed the program, which will run between August and November at both Centres and focus on accessible gym usage and education around health and fitness. Each participant will be provided with their own health and fitness program and guided by fully qualified fitness professionals.

The program will run weekly, with the first week dedicated to consultation, creating a Personal Training plan, pre-program surveys and all approvals as required.

Chief Operations Officer at the Y, Andrew Mundy, said the initiative was a good example of like-minded organisations working together to address an established community need.

“AusActive and the Y are organisations dedicated to providing the best possible community health and fitness outcomes through recreation opportunities and support. This program enables us to expand support across the disability sector in the community and assist a segment that is often overlooked in the exercise environment,” he said.

“Through the Enable All program, we aim to provide people living with a disability with a customised exercise program that will help them develop a continued exercise regime.”

The program will be free for each participant and include their support workers and/or carers as needed. Spaces are limited and people interested can register at:
