1:1 Swimming Lessons are designed to provide children and adults living with a disability, or other barrier preventing group swimming lesson participation, the opportunity to learn water safety and basic swimming skills.

1:1 Swimming Lessons are designed to work towards an agreed suitable progression – whether that be joining group lessons or gaining the confidence to swim independently indoors or at the beach.

*1:2 lessons are available to accommodate a sibling or friend which either share the same progression goal or help the participant t achieve their progression.

Fees and the NDIS

Sport and recreation activities such as swimming lessons are not covered by the NDIS. However, if Self or Plan Managed, you may wish to claim for the additional cost of one to one support. To calculate the one to one cost, the retail list group lesson price can be deducted from the above noted prices (e.g. $47.50 – $19.00 = $28.50 of potentially claimable “Specialised 1:1 Fee”). The YMCA is unable to invoice for fees, however on request can supply a statement of fees paid to be submitted for NDIS re-imbursement. Conditions apply, talk to your plan manager to confirm eligibility.

Program Terms

  • Payments: Fees are paid via ongoing fortnightly direct debit by credit card or bank account details.
  • Min. Term & Cancellation: An initial term minimum term of 3 months applies, after which 14 day written notice of cancellation is required to cease lessons.
  • Suspensions: Participants are entitled to 8 lesson suspensions (missed classes) per calendar year with 24 hour written (email) notice provided. Full fees are charged for notice under 24 hours. “Make-up lessons” are not available. No fee medical suspensions are available with a accompanying medical certificate.
  • Summer break & Public Holidays: Lessons automatically suspend at no cost during the last 2 weeks of December and first 2 weeks of January (48 lessons per year). No lessons are held on public holidays (the week is skipped).

Participating Locations

1:1 Swimming Lessons are subject to pool and teachers availability, typically offered during ‘non-peak’ times during the day or before or after mainstream group swimming lessons. Please use the form below to submit enquiries and questions.

Enrolment requests are reviewed by the sites Swim Lesson Coordinator, who will be in touch within 3 business days to discuss pool and instructor availability and answer any questions you may have.
