Recreational Gymnastics

Designed for participants with varying abilities, stages 1 - 5 introduce students to fundamental gymnastic skills in an environment that is safe, fun and focused on participation. Students develop skills of body control, coordination and self-confidence – a great foundation for competitive gymnastics and an ongoing active lifestyle. Students will be introduced to gymnastic apparatus including the floor, vault, beam, bars, rings and trampoline.

A Gymnastic SA registration fee of $59 is required at the time of enrolling.

STAGE 1 | 5Y - 7Y

An introductory gymnastics class with a focus on fun, physical activity and exploration of gymnastic fundamentals. STAGE 1 is designed for participants new to gymnastics and those progressing from Mini Gymnastics and Action Gym.

Ages: 5Y -7Y
When: Weekdays 4pm, and Saturdays 9am & 10am
Ratios: 1:10
Prerequisite: Beginners new to gymnastics, under 7Y
Length/Frequency: 60 minute, 1X/week
Structure/Payment: Direct debit

STAGE 1 | 7Y+

When: Monday (5pm), Tuesday (4pm), Thursday 4pm), Friday (4pm) and Saturdays (9am)

Length/Frequency: 60 minute, 1X/week
Structure/Payment: Direct debit

STAGE 2 | 5Y+

A beginner gymnastics class building on STAGE 1, introducing basic gymnastic skills and routines in a fun and inclusive environment.

Ages: 5Y+
When: Monday to Wednesday 4pm, Thursdays 5pm, and Saturdays 9am & 10am
Ratios: 1:10
Prerequisite: Beginners new to gymnastics
Length/Duration: 60 minute, 1X/week
Structure/Payment: Direct debit
Indicative skills of this stage:

  • Straight jumps from height to Motorbike landing
  • Swing on low bar
  • Controlled jumps on trampoline
  • Walk forwards on balance beam
  • Bunny hop
  • Forward rolls from star shape down an incline
  • Hold body weight in static shape
STAGE 3 | 5Y+

Students progressing from STAGE 2 will start to develop upon the skills they have previously learnt while introducing new skills and routines. The students will be challenged in a fun and safe environment, including encouraged participation in non-competitive Gymnastics For All (GFA) Challenges to showcase their skills and routines.

Ages: 5Y+
When: Tuesday and Thursdays 5pm, and Saturdays 10am
Ratios: 1:10
Prerequisite: Completion of STAGE 2
Length/Duration: 60 minute, 1X/week
Structure/Payment: Direct debit, $14/session
Indicative skills of this stage:

  • Backward rolldown incline
  • ¾ handstand
  • Walking forward and backwards on toes on beam
  • Step kicks on beam
  • Chin up hold on low bar
  • Casts on low bar back to front support
  • Swings on low bar with re-grips
STAGE 4 | 5Y+

This class is designed for those looking to take the next step in learning harder and more technically challenging skills and routines – this is where becoming a ‘gymnast’ really starts to take shape. STAGE 4 equips students with the skills to transition to the competitive program pending interest, capability and motivation. Students in STAGE 4 are encouraged to participate in non-competitive Gymnastics For All (GFA) Challenges to showcase their skills and routines.

Ages: 5Y+
When: Tuesday and Thursdays 6pm, and Saturdays 11am
Ratios: 1:10
Prerequisite: Completion of STAGE 3
Length: 90 min weekday sessions
Frequency: Optional participation in more than 1 class per week
Structure/Payment: Direct debit, $14 for 60 min, $16 for 90 min

  • Bridge
  • Chin up pull over
  • Long swings with re-grips
  • Straight jump on beam
  • ¾ handstand on beam
  • Handstand / to flat back
STAGE 5 | 5Y+

As a progression from STAGE 4, STAGE 5 is designed to provide the next level of challenge and skill progression. Students learn harder and higher quality skills and routines. Students in this class may also have the opportunity to transition across to the competitive program if there is interest, motivation and commitment. Students in STAGE 5 are encouraged to participate in non-competitive Gymnastics For All (GFA) Challenges to showcase their skills and routines.

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm, and Saturdays 11am
Ratios: 1:10
Prerequisite: Completion of STAGE 4
Length: 90 min weekday sessions
Frequency: Encouraged participation in more than 1 class per week
Structure/Payment: Direct debit, $14 for 60 min, $16 for 90 min

  • Round off
  • Handstand forward roll
  • Run, handspring flatback
  • Jump from low bar to high bar
  • Cast back hip circle
  • Tuck jump / straight jump connection
  • Handstand or cartwheel on beam

Aerobic Gymnastics
