Aquatic Programs For Adults

Not everyone learns aquatic skills as a child. Some adults have never even been in a pool, river, lake, or the sea.

Others may have learned some skills, but haven’t used them for many years and want to improve their skills and knowledge about water safety.

YMCA offers aquatics programs for adults of all abilities and cultural backgrounds, by providing lessons and facilities for casual swimming in an encouraging and social atmosphere.

For seniors, our Pryme Movers Aquaerobics classes will help you stay active and maintain mobility in a low-impact environment. Plus they're a great place to socialise!

Aquatic education for people with special needs

YMCA Swiming Lessons program offers classes for participants who are:

  •     Intellectually and/or physically challenged, disabled or handicapped
  •     Older adults
  •     Assessed as requiring a special needs program
  •     From a multi-cultural background.

Classes may take the following form:

  •     One-to-one classes
  •     A specifically designed group class with a maximum ratio of one teacher to four participants
  •     As part of a ‘mainstream’ group class with a carer to assist, under direction from an aquatic education teacher.
